As you may recall, information about our Spring Break visit to the Delphian School in Oregon was sent home before the Winter Break. This trip occurs every other year and is open to parents and students and is a great opportunity to see the Delphi high school program in action, as well as enjoy a few days in the beautiful Willamette Valley.
Plane fares are on sale right now, so I'd like to get everyone's commitment now so I can book in time to keep costs low. Please RSVP here with yes/no and number of people that will attend. Please note that if your child has not graduated Form 3 yet, we require one parent to attend with the child. The cost is $400/person.
Meals and boarding on campus, transportation, activities and academics are all included. The final cost will be announced once I have the total number of participants and have been able to calculate the costs of chaperones, air fare, etc. for the group.
We will most likely leave on the morning of Monday, April 17 from the San Jose airport and fly out of Portland some time Thursday morning, April 20. I will be coordinating this once I have our group size and can talk to the airline.
Students stay in the dormitories at the Delphian boarding school and attend their counterpart class in the mornings. (They can bring the course from school they are working on). Additionally, they participate in science lab projects, outdoor exploration, eating in the cafeteria, and older students can spend some time with the high school to get a feel for it. Special activities are coordinated during the visit. This year's theme is Dragon Sports and will feature games, training and skill clinics in a few chosen sports. Students can choose a sport they'd like to focus on, or try several. Sports at Delphian include: soccer, archery, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, tennis, track and even hiking on the school's many acres. The school's new sports center will be utilized, with indoor track and weights area, gymnastic mats, as well as the outdoor fields, courts and track.
Parents are hosted in staff homes located on campus. Walk to breakfast in the dining hall down a tree lined path, breathing in the fresh Oregon air that blows in from the coast. Delphian will offer special tours, orientation to the high school experience, college preparation seminars, and parents can also join in some of the fun experiences with the kids.
